Violy Live Class — Smart Music Classroom
Violy musicians, have you used “Live Class” feature in Violy App? Through the feature, music teachers can make video calls to students and teach music instrument lessons online. The specially optimized, high-definition audio and video transmission can boost the efficiency of remote music education.
Many improvements have been made on “Live Class” feature after its release. The detailed instructions of its usage will be introduced in the text below.
Start a Music Class Online
Open the app, sign up, and select “I’m a teacher”.
Choose the instrument you teach on “Select Instrument” page.
If your instrument is not listed, please randomly select one. “Live Class” feature is applicable for all musical instruments.
Enter “Students” page.
Invite your students to the group if they are not in your group currently. Click on “Invite students”.
Choose the platform you would like to share the link of invitation to. Here we take Instagram as an example.
Once your students open the link you share, they need to input their phone number or email address, and the verification code received to log in. Then they can manage to join your group.
After the students join your group, you can click on “Refresh” and then see their names. To start a live class, just click on the button of “Live Class” behind the students’ names.
Also, there is another way of inviting students to the group. Click on “Manage”.
Input your students’ Violy accounts (phone number / email address), and click on “Add”. Then the students are added into your group.
You can also invite other teachers in this way. Only the admin of the group is allowed to invite people via “Manage”.
To receive the video call, the one being called should open the app on his or her device, and the screen of the device should stay on for accepting the call.
During the video call, both you and your student can swipe left to enter 3x3 grid view.
Online Music Group Class
To switch the group or create new groups, click on “Groups” on the top right corner.
For calling more than one student, click on “Group Class”.
Select the students you need to call, and click on “Confirm” to start the video call.
All the participants of the video call can enter 3x3 grid view by swiping left.
Once the video call ends, you can click on “Class Log” to find out more details of the live class, such as the time, period, participants, etc..
More Music “Live Class” Features
The features introduced below are applicable to both 1-on-1 music classes and music group classes.
1. Select Video Quality and Add Participants
During the online music class, you can click on the 3-dot symbol on the top right corner, and select the video quality based on the network condition. The audio quality is always optimal, and it is not affected by the video quality. Besides, you can click on “Add” to invite other members in your group to enter the video call.
2. “Mute”, “Unmute”, and “Mute All”
During the video call, participants can control their microphones separately. Only the teacher who starts the music class has the permission to turn off the microphones of all the other participants.
3. “Share Screen”
You can share your screen with your students while teaching online music classes. Then they can see your device screen on their sides.
4. “Interrupt”
To stop the participants from playing, you can click on “Interrupt”.
Features Specially Designed for Music “Group Class”
1. Focus Mode
During the music group class, the default full-screen chat window is that of the teacher. If the teacher who starts the video call double clicks on the chat window of a student, the student will be on the focus, and his or her chat window will be displayed in full screen. Then the student can be seen or heard by all the participants.
The teacher can hear all the students and see their chat windows, while students can only hear the teacher and the one on the focus, and see the chat windows of the two.
2. Partner Mode
To provide 1-on-1 tutoring for a student, you can select “Switch to Partner”, and click on the student’s chat window.
Once the “Partner Mode” is turned on, you can only hear the student who is being tutored, while the other participants’ microphones are turned off. “Mute All” is not available under “Partner mode”.
3. Raise Hand
When you are conducting music group classes, the students can raise hand by clicking on the “Raise Hand” symbol. Then you will receive the alert on your side.
